The City Island Civic Association will be meeting on Tuesday, July 30th at 7:30pm at 190 Fordham Street.

CICA will have two guests at the next meeting, former Congressman Anthony Weiner and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. Both are candidates to be the next Mayor of New York City.

Letters were sent to all announced candidates as of 04/30/2013. So far, the only announced candidate to attend has been Adolfo Carrion, Island resident and Independence Party nominee. City Comptroller John Liu also attended our January meeting, before he declared his candidacy.

These parks are larger and smaller alternative compared to Central Park but it’s just as beautiful and lively. Concerts and free yoga take place here. There are many seats for hanging out with friends and lunch dates. Come out and tan or read a book all day.

WEDDING PARTY BOAT CRASH

A deadly nighttime speedboat crash on the Hudson River hurled the bride-to-be and her fiance's best man into the water and left the groom and three others injured, including a friend who was piloting the boat.

Six friends were on board the boat when it struck a barge near the Tappan Zee Bridge, sending Lindsey Stewart and Mark Lennon, both 30.

The bride is presumed dead and the groom is missing as a result of a NY wedding boat ride.

The body matching 30-year-old Lindsey Stewart was pulled from the water, but officials have not issued a positive identification.

No, this is not the flying pontiff, although the winds were strong and wet near this Copacabana beach, it did not keep the large crowds from welcoming this Latin American Pope.

Pope Francis is visiting his home continent for the first time as pontiff for a seven-day visit meant to fan the fervor of the faithful around the globe.

HOOSIER TRAGEDY

Three are dead and several critically injured following an Indiana bus returning from a church summer camp overturned in Indianapolis.

A total of thirty-seven passengers were on the bus when it overturned, entrapping five people. Indianapolis Fire Department said nine teenage patients were sent to Indiana University Methodist Hospital.

My parents constantly said, stand up straight. Timeless advice we’ve all probably heard at one time or another and it’s still worth heeding.

EGYPT: 100 killed and 1,000 injured

Hundreds of thousands turned out across Egypt for pro-army demonstrations but clashed with counter protests causing chaos.

As a result, at least 100 have died in clashes as supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi who also also lined the streets. Morsi has been formally accused of conspiring with Palestinian group Hamas and of murdering officers.

The violence occurred hours after Morsi supporters and opponents attended mass rival rallies across Egypt.
