Last year, at least 88 journalists were killed for simply doing their jobs. This is a sharp increase from the preceding years.

The current conflict in the Media East is taking a horrific toll on journalists. We are deeply alarmed by these figures and by the rise in threats of all kinds against journalists.

On this International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, #CityImages recognizes all media professionals who risk their health and lives to keep us informed and to keep the truth alive.

Dawn Powell was an American novelist, playwright, screenwriter, and short story writer. She is now a perpetual NYC neighbor.

Known for her acid-tongued prose, "her relative obscurity was likely due to a general distaste for her harsh satiric tone." Nonetheless, Stella Adler and author Clifford Odets appeared in one of her plays.
