UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today stressed that the international community must continue to “speak with one voice” to find a solution to the Syrian crisis, stressing that there is no time to lose in seeking to end the ongoing violence.

“I appreciate that many countries have been working tirelessly, who have been really trying to overcome this crisis through their diplomatic efforts,” Mr. Ban told reporters during a press conference in Indonesia.

A friend of City Island Images, Jesus Javier has died on the west coast. His death was confirmed today by fellow journalists and family members. Jesus Javier died following a battle with cancer. When we recently met to catch up, he claimed he was improving.

PRACTICE HEALTHY EATING

For many people, eating out is a way of life. Most of these meals are purely a matter of convenience: a sandwich from the supermarket deli counter, drive-through burgers, or take-out Mexican, or Chinese food.

Although meal planning and weight loss can be more difficult when you eat out, you can step into a restaurant prepared. Try the following to make your dining experience as healthy as it is enjoyable:

Ask how the food is prepared. Talking with the restaurant staff before you order about the various menu selections and how they’re prepared will help you make appropriate choices.

On this first day of spring it was so foggy on City Island this morning that people standing on the corner of Fordham street and City Island avenue waved down the bus, only to have it pass them by.
It's not that the bus driver could not see me, but the bus had a driver in training and was not taking any passengers. No worries, about ten minutes later the 29 Bus came along and stopped as they do normally. Everything is much harder to see during fog.

But now scientists point out that the advantages of bilingualism are even better than being able to speak with a wider range of individuals. Their research indicates that being bilingual makes you smarter. It can have a profound effect on the brain, improving skills not related to language and even shielding against dementia as these people get older.

FREE WILL - NOT SO MUCH

Free will has long been a fraught concept among philosophers and theologians. Now neuroscience is entering the fray.

For centuries, the idea that we are the authors of our own actions, beliefs, and desires has remained central to our sense of self. We choose whom to love, what thoughts to think, which impulses to resist. Or do we?
