BANK TRANSFER DAY

Today was supposed to be the big bank revolt, when millions of dollars were going to be withdrawn from banks across the nation, but these actions failed to materialize locally.

City Island Images checked area financial institutions and we were told that there was no mass movement to close, or transfer accounts, in fact the bankers we spoke with reported the opposite. They spoke about opening new savings and checking accounts.

VACCA COAT DRIVE

Sunday, Council Member James Vacca will join the Edgewater Park Ladies Auxiliary to host a coat drive at the Edgewater Park Firehouse. Donations of gently used coats will be accepted from 10 AM to 1 PM. Vacca will be on hand starting at 12:30 PM. All donated coats will benefit homeless families living at St. Peter’s Shelter.

UN SEEKS COLLABORATIONS

A new United Nations expert body that promotes respect for human rights among businesses is inviting governments, companies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to submit ideas and proposals to help establish its work programme next year.

The UN Working Group on Human Rights and Transnational Corporations and other Business Enterprises will take businesses’ submissions into account during its first session in January, when the Group’s priorities and activities will be determined.
