The first education summit, “From Cradle to Career,” will be taking place on October 15, 2011 at Lehman College, hosted by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz.

As announced by the Borough President in his State of Borough address in 2010, he has put together a day-long conference designed to create an educational agenda for the Bronx. Borough President Diaz has gathered the most influential educational figures to discuss crucial topics affecting Bronx schools, such as special education, English Language Learners, and higher education.

PUTNAM TRAIL FACES MAJOR RENOVATIONS

The NYC Parks Department announced plans to widen and pave the Putnam Trail in Van Cortlandt Park. The Putnam Trail is currently a dirt path that cuts through the park, between Van Cortlandt Lake and Tibbetts Brook.

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz was joined today by Transportation Alternatives, Montefiore Medical Center, St. Barnabas Hospital, Bronx Lebanon Medical Center, Domino’s Pizza, the New York Botanical Garden and Woodlawn Cemetery to announce the 17th Annual Tour De Bronx , New York’s State largest free cycling event. Klein Celebrates Hispanic Heritage

National Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

This year’s theme is “Many Backgrounds, Many Stories…One American Spirit.”

This Saturday, Oct. 15, I will be hosting a special brunch honoring the many Hispanic Americans who embody the spirit of service in our communities.

Tonight's concerts featured Orquesta Aragón, traveling from their native Cuba to New York to recreate the ambiance of some of the top dance halls of the 20th century, like the Palladium, the Village Gate, Havana San Juan and the Corso. These venues consistently drew diverse crowds dancing to the sounds of Latin luminaries, including Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Machito, Beny Moré, and La Lupe.
