Who is right, who is wrong and why must Apple and US Justice Department officials continue fighting over bits of bytes? This war of legal briefs continue to grow bigger and with time it may not get better, but worse.

Friday the 13th

Submitted by ub on

Is this a new twist on an old superstition, or is this day any different than any other day? Perhaps, because this is the third time we see it this year.

Fear is likely rooted in Christianity. Jesus was crucified on a Friday and ever since the day has been associated with "general ill omen," Michael Bailey, a history professor at Iowa State University who specializes in the origins of superstitions, told USA TODAY Network.

Weddings in the Middle Ages, for instance, were not held on Fridays and it was not a day someone would start a journey, Bailey said.

Thirteen guests are believed to have attended the Last Supper, the night before Jesus was killed, according to Stuart Vyse, a psychology professor at Connecticut College. And Judas Iscariot, the disciple who betrayed Jesus, is considered to have been the 13th guest, Vyse said.

The superstition's origins are mysterious. It's unclear when Friday and number 13 became linked in the way we think of them today,

No. You're not more likely to make a trip to the hospital, but a friend told me he and his family were having his yearly physical.

European based reserach published in the World Journal of Surgery explored whether there is a link between Friday the 13th and an increase of blood loss and the frequency of emergency room visits on those days. Researchers reviewed 3,281 days at a hospital facility that included 15 Friday the 13ths. They found no correlation.

November 13, 2015 happens to be the third of three Friday the 13ths this year. Other dates this year include February 13 and March 13. In 2014, Friday the 13th came along once on June 13. After Friday, we'll have to wait until May 13, 2016 for the next "unlucky" date.

Why a trilogy of Friday the 13ths in 2015?

DEMOCRATS DEBATE

Submitted by Admin on

Democratic presidential candidates take the debate stage in Las Vegas under the time-honored rules of presidential debating, alone, unaided, defending their candidacies with only their wits and smiles.

While it will not really be a real debate in every sense of the word, because the word describes a clash of ideas and positions, it will be a media competition to see how accurately each candidate outlines his or her talking points, and other than some excursion into originality catch them in a flip-flop or a gaffe.

WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Music blasting and dogs barking at all hours of the morning and night. People fighting in the building and others, who do not even live there with access to keys to our building. Lights burned out for long periods in areas that are usually lighted and other areas where the lights are on during the day. Welcome to NYC. Fences broken, which allow trespassers to enter our property and the association defers to the manager, who are supposed to answer to their demands.

MEDIA MADNESS

Why is it that following acts of violence, which causes multiple deaths, the media keeps mentioning the perpetrator? These people who commit crimes are sick people seeking attention and the media gives it to them every time. We need to have conversations with friends and colleagues about this problem.

CITY IMAGES proposes that these criminals be left in the shadows to lurk in their own darkness. The emotional crescendo of family friends and our nation is understandable following tormented losses, most of which are caused by the growing access of guns in this country.

DEBATE BS METER

According to The Associated Press, there were several questionable moments during last night's debate. It appears that US may need a truth meter because there are going to be many more of these debates in the coming months.

Possibly this is stated this way because understating the state of affairs, here may be a defensible assessment of the seriousness of the stakes. The future of the country and of the free world. To be personified and settled by people in politics, business and health care who are evenly spaced apart inside a TV studio situated on the edge of the political precipice.
