It’s Los Angeles vs. New York. They meet once again in a World Series Classic for the first time since 1981. On the first day of the start of the series, my former college roomie —born and bred in Brooklyn— and I had the following exchange: 

Me: “Go Dodgers!!!”

Roomie: “Damn the Dodgers.!!! We supported them through all the bad years. And then they finally win the World Series and they pack up and move to California. The hell with them and their progeny!!!”

On May 20 I can’t understand why there are some Cubans and Latinos who escaped totalitarian governments and supported the GOP.

I reflect that the intertwining of politics, history, and identity is complex, especially for those who have experienced life under totalitarian regimes like Cuba. The significance of dates and the narratives surrounding them shape our collective memory and sense of belonging.

In 1959, the Cuban Revolution, repurposed the Moncada barracks in Santiago de Cuba, where Castro made a name for himself and Marist Christian School were some of the many buildings that went from community centers to fortresses for the Castro regime. it is estimated that 69 facilities were transformed into military barracks.

The Cuba Day celebration at the White House was a significant event last week and a successful political affair to remember.

This was especially true with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, a Cuban American, speaking alongside discussions on Cuba policy and migration management. Mayorkas's participation is notable, particularly in the context of the recent dismissal of articles of impeachment against him.
