Telemundo's coverage of the 2026 World Cup averaged six point three million viewers across all one hundred four matches... a jump of one hundred forty three percent from 2022. The final between Spain and Argentina drew twenty three point nine million viewers on Telemundo alone... the most watched soccer match ever on Spanish language television. Streaming told an even bigger story. Peacock and Telemundo's digital platforms averaged three million viewers per minute... nearly four times what they pulled four years ago. Fox still drew the larger English language audience for the final... nearly thirty nine million viewers to Telemundo's twenty four million.But NBCUniversal executives say the real shift isn't about one night. It's strategic. Spanish language programming is now central to Peacock's growth plans... and Telemundo has passed longtime rival Univision to become the number one Spanish language network on both TikTok and YouTube.
Spanish language sports media didn't just have a good tournament. It crossed into the first tier of American media business.

The quote circulated widely on social media as a satirical dig at Trump, but it wasn't something Leavitt actually said in a briefing, its a fabricated line that gained traction around the time Trump was making disputed claims about the Iran war and his foreign policy record.
What Leavitt has actually said on the record about Iran runs the opposite direction — defending, not undercutting, the administration's intelligence basis. In one March briefing, she pushed back on a CBS correspondent questioning Trump's rationale for military action, insisting his decision was based on intelligence and a year of negotiations with Iran, and stated flatly that the president "is not making this up." So to clear up, the line makes for a good punchline, but it's not a real quote.
