Happy Rosh Hashanah!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR... Rosh Hashanah occurs on the first and second days of Tishri.

In Hebrew, Rosh Hashanah means, literally, "head of the year" or "first of the year." Rosh Hashanah is commonly known as the Jewish New Year.

This name is somewhat deceptive, because there is little similarity between Rosh Hashanah, one of the holiest days of the year, and the American midnight drinking bash and daytime football game.

No, not Fidel, or Raul. It was another infamous guy named Ariel Castro. After he was sentenced to life plus 1,000 years for kidnapping and raping three women, along with murder, it was apparently too much for him to take and the convicted felon was found hanging in his prison cell last night.

Prison officials found the 52 year old Castro hanging inside his prison cell at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio last night.

Castro received a life sentence for kidnapping, raping and beating of three Cleveland women he held captive for years inside his house.

Labor Day has come and gone and with it the end to the warmer weather and the lazy pace of the summer season. Summertime has ran out!

School classes are open once again and unfortunately there are many things that just aren't nearly as much fun in the spring, fall, or winter as they are in summer. For example: Independence Day picnics, fireworks, and beer just wouldn't be the same. When summer begins, it seems like it will last forever. But you only a few weeks later, it is over and done.

At age 64, super athlete and long distance swimmer Diana Nyad has become the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without a protective shark cage, through the treacherous Florida straights all the way to a Key West beach this afternoon at 2 p.m, nearly 53 hours after jumping into the ocean in Habana for her fifth try in 35 years.

CNN had a great position to record Diana Nyad completing her swim, but didn't get the shot. Nor did CBS, NBC, ABC or Fox. Huh?

Following a busy summer season, City Island began slowing down this Labor Day. The most influential restaurants owner on the island says business is always slow on Labor Day and Sammy Chernin told City Island Images that business was especially slow today due to the wet weather.

The City Island traffic was so light that City Island Images found a News 12 crew doing a live shot on the fact that City Island traffic was virtually non existent due to scattered showers, which kept most folks indoors today.
