The program, called Partners in Preservation, is New York City’s first citywide preservation effort powered by social media asking the public to vote on its favorite historic places.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is gravely alarmed by reports of continued violence and killing in Syria, including shelling and explosions in various residential areas as well as armed clashes, and called the situation “unacceptable.”

A grand total of 40 NYC cultural institutions and historic sites are competing for millions of dollars in grants for preservation efforts in a new grassroots campaign announced yesterday.
Members of the public at large can now vote online for the projects that are most important or favorites to them, ranging from The City Island Nautical Museum to internationally known landmarks, like the Guggenheim Museum, NY Botanical Garden and Harlem's Apollo Theater.

The Bronx Tourism Council has announced that international model and actor Tyson Beckford will be inducted to the Bronx Walk of Fame this year. Mr. Beckford is the last 2012 Bronx Walk of Fame honoree, joining noted jazz musician Valerie Capers, cinematographer Sol Negrin and hip-hop legend Fat Joe, as well as dozens of other borough legends who throughout the years have been honored for their contributions to cultural and civic life not just here in the Bronx, but across the nation and the world.
