NY State Office of Developmental Disabilities says they're establishing a Center at 532 City Island Avenue for up to 30 patients between the hours of 9a-3p. The 3000 square foot site, which features large windows is intended to decentralize and downsize the existing day program to better serve their population, as well as to foster interaction with the community.

Officials with OPWDD, which serves more than 126,000 New Yorkers with developmental disabilities say that they chose City Island for it's peace, quiet and tranquility of our community, Pelham Park and Orchard Beach.

New York City Council Transportation Chair James Vacca says that MTA will face a number of challenges in the years ahead, from preserving service for straphangers to completing many of the mega-projects across the city, all under the threat of further budget cuts.
