WHAT IN THE WORLD?

What a hell of a week its been. Thank God its Friday, but our problems are not over.

This week started with a US government shut down over Obamacare, aka Affordable Care Act. What do Americans and the rest of the world think about US?

The whole world is watching and what it sees may not be pretty. It appears to be a mixture of bewilderment and growing nervousness that any debt default could hit struggling other countries classified as economies.

What do you think about this ugly side of partisan politics in Washington DC?

Stop Pay for Congress

Demand that members of Congress stop getting paid during their self-inflicted government shutdown. It is morally reprehensible that hardworking federal employees will stop receiving their paychecks, while Congress still gets paid for refusing to do the job they were elected to do.

11/12/13 WEDDING?

Submitted by Admin on

Most couples aren't interested in getting married on any weekday, except perhaps for a special Tuesday in November.

November 12 of this year will be known as 11/12/13 and many bride and grooms to be are choosing that very date for their wedding.

Although it’s one thing to choose a date that sounds catchy, numerologists note there's another meaning behind this date.

There are a lot of philosophies about certain numbers. If you look at 11/12/13, the number 11 is really significant. You see it everywhere and some people who believe its connection to angels make a wish whenever they see it. The number 12 is the number named dozen and thirteen is know as a lucky number to some.

But for those of us who aren’t fluent in the language of numerology, just seeing a special pattern of numbers will prompt people to choose a date because it appears to be symbolic, not to mention that it's easy to remember. City Islanders Yirong Chen and Roberto Soto got married on 8/10/13 because they did not want to have to wait until 10/12/14.

If you look at 11/12/13 you may think... Wow, this must mean something.
The final shot brides and grooms will have at marrying on a consecutive date will be 12/13/14. After that, your next shot at a true consecutive date won't be until January 2, 2103.

United Nations Food Security

One in eight people around the world is chronically undernourished, the United Nations' food agencies said on Tuesday, warning world leaders.

The State of Food Insecurity in the World 2013 presents updated estimates of undernourishment and progress towards the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) and World Food Summit (WFS) hunger targets. The latest assessment shows that further progress has been made towards the 2015 MDG target, which remains within reach for the developing regions as a whole, although marked differences across regions persist and considerable and immediate additional efforts will be needed.

The 2013 report goes beyond measuring food deprivation. It presents a broader suite of indicators that aim to capture the multidimensional nature of food insecurity, its determinants and outcomes. This suite, compiled for every country, allows a more nuanced picture of their food security status, guiding policy-makers in the design and implementation of targeted and effective policy measures that can contribute to the eradication of hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition.
