Despite the appeals for united and concerted action to help end the escalating violence in Syria, the Security Council today failed to adopt a resolution that would have threatened sanctions on Damascus, owing to the negative votes of permanent members Russia and China.

Eleven of the Council’s 15 members voted in favor of the resolution’s text, while two others – Pakistan and South Africa – abstained. A veto by any one of the Council’s five permanent members means a resolution cannot be adopted.

Voters in the Unites States are currently experiencing one of the most sour political moods in any presidential campaigns ever recorded, with billions of dollars expected to be spent on attack ads. These vicious attacks are being reportedly used 90 percent of the time, according to statistics.

During the current campaign, the candidates are spending much more time telling voters how bad the opposition is, instead of explaining their own political platforms. Their main concern seems to be to convince US voters that they aren’t as bad as the opposition.

NEW YORK CITY'S UNIQUE ONLINE NEWS SERVICE

In many parts of New York City, news and information content is limited to local events. That is because residents living in many Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island neighborhoods usually have several newspapers to choose from. However, The Bronx has a smaller variety of news and information outlets because it has struggled with poverty, high unemployment and crime rates over the past years.

A recent NY Time article:Why Can’t the Bronx Be More Like Brooklyn? http://nyti.ms/Ng8YTy

"The Bronx’s inability to catch up with the rest of the city’s phenomenal economic growth has been disconcerting. In the early 1970s, the Bronx and Brooklyn had similar average household incomes. Since then, though, the gap has grown significantly. The average Brooklyn resident is now around 23 percent richer than the average Bronxite; people in Queens are roughly 32 percent richer. (Manhattan residents are 265 percent wealthier; Staten Island residents, by the way, are 55 percent richer.)"
