Addressing the media in Moscow, the Joint Special Envoy for the United Nations and the League of Arab States for the Syrian Crisis, Kofi Annan, today voiced the hope that members of the Security Council will be able to reach agreement on a course of action to deal with the situation in the Middle Eastern country.

“I would hope that the Council will continue its discussions and hopefully find language that will pull everybody together for us to move forward on this critical issue,” Mr. Annan told reporters, following a meeting with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.

Sex in The Second Half of Life

Sexuality is not just for the young. Results from a University of Chicago survey published in 2007 suggested that over half of Americans remain sexually active well into their 70s. That said, sexual activity does subside with age. Biological factors tug in that direction, as do social arrangements: older people, especially women, often end up single when a spouse or partner dies. But researchers at Indiana University report that 20% to 30% of long-lived Americans are sexually active into their 80s.

EFFECTS OF CLASSICAL MUSIC

While sitting at a bus terminal with enough time on my hands, I heard music coming over the speakers. It was Schubert’s first piano trio. Schubert is one of my many favorites, but as I listened, I found that I wasn’t relaxing. The music sounded tinny, hard-edged, aggressive. I had to move and needed to get out of there.

FUNDING THREATENS SYRIA HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE

The humanitarian response for Syria is facing a critical shortage of funds, a top UN relief official warned today, calling on the donor community to scale up their contributions to enable aid agencies to help those affected by the escalating crisis.

“If we don’t get more money, people will die and there will be more humanitarian suffering. The needs will continue to grow as long as this conflict continues – that is a sad and tragic truth,” said John Ging, the Director of the Coordination and Response Division of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
