With the national heat dome moving our way, our public beaches may be closed in a day. So fat, the Hudson and East, and Harlem Rivers are off-limits to sports canoeing, kayaking, and swimming through this weekend.
The culprit is an explosion at a water-treatment plant in Manhattan, which forced the city to pump raw sewage into the river. A fire ripped through the engine room of the North River Waste water Treatment Plant on West 135th Street.
