BRONX POST OFFICE PROTEST

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. today joined with several key members of the New York Metro Area Postal Union, APWU, AFL-CIO.

The group gathered on the steps of the Bronx GPO on East 149th Street and the Grand Concourse to protest the proposed closure of 17 borough Post Offices and the removal of processing services from the Bronx GPO.

Soy in a regular part of our diet. It has been for the past 3 thousand years. Soy is served at restaurants and can be found in almost every form, from burgers to nutrition bars. In fact, people who don't know beans about nutrition even know that soy makes for delightfully healthy snacks.

Soy is a source of protein containing nine essential amino acids and is the only plant which is equivalent in amino acids to animal protein. The FDA says that eating 25 grams of soy protein per day as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease.

GIVE MEN SHELTER BUT NOT THERE

Any future use of the Muller Army Reserve Center may turn into a legal fight between Bronx Borough President and NYC Mayor Bloomberg. Borough President Ruben Diaz wants the federal government to intervene.

Officials representing the Bloomberg administration contend that a vote in favor of a plan for a 200-bed men’s homeless shelter by the Muller Local Redevelopment Authority took place in November 2010.

NYC is a wonderful place to bike, as long as you have a safe place to park your bike. Unfortunately, it happens to be our nation's bike stealing capital. Ask any New Yorker and they will probably tell you they know someone who has had their bike stolen, and some talk about bike locks like others talk about home alarms.

Although The Bronx and Staten Island editions of the NYC bicycling map were the first to be released, way back in 1997, maps for all five boroughs are available. Eventually, the individual borough maps were combined into one single map.

City Island's American Legion Leonard Hawkins Post #156 will hold their annual clam bake this Saturday, July 30.

The event organizers promise live music, good food and a great time to all who attend.
