MAJOR SUBWAY RENOVATIONS

MTA has agreed to major renovations to the 149th Street/Grand Concourse subway station. Additionally, the agency will make repairs to the 138th Street/3rd Avenue subway station.

The agreement follows months of advocacy by Borough President Diaz and his office, along with the two Bronx residents who serve on the board of the MTA, Charles Moerdler and Fernando Ferrer. The two stations are among the worst in the City, and are consistently rated as such not only by transit advocacy groups but by Bronx commuters as well.

Pope Benedict wants Orthodox Christians to defend traditional church values, warning of threats posed by abortion and gay marriage. The Pope insists that Christian churches walk side by side in this fight.

He urged all Christians to attach great importance to defending the integrity and the uniqueness of marriage between one man and one woman from any kind of misinterpretation.

Orchard Beach's Majestic Grandure

The City Island Historical Society offered a unique view on Orchard Beach's Pavilion. Historian Deb Wye spoke to a group of approximately 60 people, who were there to learn about that majestic Landmark Pavilion.

This vast, spare arcade overlooking Long Island Sound in the Bronx also has a decaying side as the years and that salt air has affected this bathing complex, which opened back in July 25, 1936.

The September Meeting of the City Island Civic Association will take place on Tuesday, September 27th, at 7:30 p.m. at 190 Fordham Street. We welcome your input and attendance and we need your help.

There is no guest scheduled to speak.

Updates from our officers, committee reports on Crime, Development, Quality of Life and Traffic, and an open public forum for residents to address their grievances.
