Truth and Democracy

The rise of Fascism in Spain followed a classic trajectory that can serve as a blueprint for how Democracy can be destroyed.

My grandfather's family fled Fascism in Spain and my dad's family lost everything when we left Communism in Cuba. These facts underline how liars can dismantle our fragile Democracy.

There is absolutely no horsing around near any train tracks whatsoever. Disorderly conduct leads to injuries or death, but instead of typical warning signs or lame announcements at train stations, Metro came up with #DumbWays2Die, a song that has garnered 157 million YouTube views.

The tune is about dumb ways to die for example, by poking a grizzly bear with a stick, or taking your helmet off in outer space and it features a catchy little chorus you won't be able to stop humming to yourself because singing it is a little morbid: So many dumb ways To die.

Everyone living in America should know they can formally request the @FCC to investigate any local TV station for the content of their broadcasts. I know because I have held an #FCC license since my first job in broadcasting.

The FCC maintains jurisdiction over the areas of broadband access, fair competition, radio frequency use, media responsibility, public safety, and homeland security. The FCC was formed by the Communications Act of 1934 to replace the radio regulation functions of the Federal Radio Commission.

These are the Republican dirty dozen plus one member of Congress who are AWOL attending a GOP party instead of working.

The Republican lawmakers are facing a backlash after misleading the US House of Representatives about skipping votes to attend #CPAC. They are not representing their constituents in Congress by working hard on a much-needed stimulus package for the #USA.

Americans are divided by the sources for political news.

17 percent of Republicans, including 23 percent of conservative Republicans, said in a 2019 @pewjournalism  survey that they'd gotten political news from Rush Limbaugh in the prior week.

According to #PEW To a large degree, the pattern of partisan polarization that emerges in attitudes about the credibility of news sources is also evident in the sources that Republicans and Democrats rely on for news about politics and the election.

A Failing Falling GOP

As a former @USAGov Division Chief for George HW Bush, the last real Republican POTUS, it brings me no pleasure to ask
why American voters ignored the lies and warning signs of the GOP White House and #CULT45 inflicted on our Democracy? How could Republican leaders have voiced early alarms about a rogue president, then discussed it but set them aside? Possibly because they are liars who distort reality to shape their politics. These people are immune to evidence, logic, or scientific information, and they continue to recycle them.
