Focused on ending preventable child death through survival of newborns, children and mothers, the two-day Call to Action will convene 700 prominent leaders from government, the private sector, and civil society to kick off a long-term, business-like effort to save children’s lives.

Tomorrow at 10A, NYC Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe will join President of the New York Junior League Lisa Hathaway Stella, Assembly Member Brian Kavanagh, Council Member Rosie Mendez, and Chair of the Community Board 3 Parks Committee Thomas Yu to thank NYJL volunteers and invite the community to celebrate the completion of this project. A tree will be planted at the event as part of the City’s MillionTreesNYC efforts. There will also be activities including a musical performance, face painting, and track and field relays.

AT SECURITY COUNCIL’S REQUEST, BAN EXPLORES A ‘VARIETY OF OPTIONS’ FOR SYRIA

At the request of the Security Council, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will soon put forward a range of options for resolving the crisis in Syria.

“No one can predict how the situation in Syria will evolve. We must be prepared for any eventuality; we must be ready to respond to many possible scenarios,” Mr. Ban told reporters at UN Headquarters in New York on Thursday afternoon. “At the request of the Security Council, I will soon present a variety of options for the way ahead.”

Beacon Afterschool Program Cuts

NYC Council Members James Vacca and Dan Garodnick, along with other elected officials, are joining afterschool program advocates and parents in calling on the City to restore funding to seven Beacon programs that have been cut in the Mayor’s budget. The officials delivered hundreds of letters written by children from Beacons across the City to Mayor Bloomberg.

City Island Images is proud to announce tours of City Island and surrounding areas.

Our small tour groups will meet @ the last stop on the #6 SUBWAY, Pelham Bay Station. We will then take the #29 Bus to City Island, where we will begin our journey. Depending on the tour and dates, our stops will include Pelham Cemetery, City Island Historical Society/Museum, The Old Schoolhouse, PS 175, Yacht Clubs, Restaurants, Galleries, Shoppes, Orchard Beach, Pelham Bay Park, Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum. We will finish at the end of City Island Avenue and return to Pelham Bay Station #6 SUBWAY.

UN: VIOLENCE AND KILLING IN SYRIA "UNACCEPTABLE"

The President of the General Assembly, Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser has expressed his disappointment over the lack of progress in ending the violence in Syria.

“To tell you frankly, I’m very disappointed,” Mr. Al-Nasser said in an interview. “The UN, the General Assembly, [and] the Security Council try very hard to convince the Syrian Government to stop the violence and start listening to their own people and reach out to them and try to come up with a plan.”
