Controversy swirls around US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas regarding ethical issues from not reporting decades of substantial gifts from an activist Republican donor.

This behavior does not surprise those who remember his confirmation hearing for the high court 35 years ago. Accused then of sexual mistreatment by Anita Hill, a woman in his government office, he was stoic, with nothing to say beyond a denial. He has always been reluctant to speak publicly. She went on to become a law school professor.

NOAA declares El Nino watch, with large-scale atmospheric and oceanic changes being detected for the next ENSO phase.

El Niño is the cycle's warm phase when ocean temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean rise and there is more precipitation. El Niño causes the Pacific jet stream to move south and spread further east.

ProPublica published a bombshell story revealing that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas secretly accepted luxury trips and travel from billionaire Republican donor Harlan Crow and that Thomas did not disclose these trips on his annual financial disclosures. Thomas later put out a statement saying he didn’t think he needed to disclose the trips. Crow’s statement said it was hospitality for dear friends and wasn’t intended to influence justice.
