The city of Atlanta has become a virtual ghost town as emergency crews battle a vicious ice storm in the state capital of Georgia that had already cut off power for tens of thousands of people across a long arm of the Southeast and left the streets empty and regions covered with ice and snow.

Atlanta residents were just recuperating from another snowstorm two weeks ago after hundreds of people jammed local roads trying to get home at the same time. The ice storm this week prompted Governor Nathan Deal to declare a state of emergency for about 40 Georgia counties.

Another winter storm is headed this way: Being prepared is a MUST.

Winter storms sometimes result with millions left without power, heat, or fresh running water. Making preparations before a winter storm is extremely important, since these leave dangerous roads and conditions in their paths.

The National Weather Service says the NYC metropolitan area will get hit late Wednesday night through Thursday night. There is a chance that we will get up to eight inches of snow, and possibly mixing with rain on Thursday.

Actress, former child star and US diplomat, Shirley Temple Black's films cheered American depression-weary moviegoers and made her the most famous little girl in the world. She died last night at age 85 of undisclosed causes.

Shirley Temple was born on April 23, 1928 and began her film career in 1932. Temple was an American film and television actress, singer, dancer, and former U.S. ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia.
