A couple of elderly City Island friends plan to celebrate Valentine's Day at 88 years young is their own special way, proving that friendship is the foundation for love.

Jackie Kyle and Russel Schaller have been good friends many decades, but the pair grew fonder for each other when their respective spouses passed away.

Russel tells City Island Images he plans to invite Jackie out on the town. Meanwhile Jackie says she will soon be dropping off chocolates inside his mailbox.

AMADIZ CIGARS is located on 470 City Island Avenue just on the left hand side and acress from Seafood City. This City Island tobacco shop is the only local cigar lounge and it also offers a savory selection of premium and hand rolled cigars. If interested, you can actually watch the cigars being made right there in front of your eyes.

AMADIZ specializes in Dominican cigars and a portion of their premium selections are from Nicaragua and Honduras. They also sell flavored cigars like vanilla, cherry, etc. for beginners and some of the ladies.

Bronx Chamber Supports Fresh Direct

The Bronx Chamber of Commerce, an entity is celebrating its 118th birthday and was founded in 1894, along with its 600 members is delighted to hear that Fresh Direct has chosen The Bronx as the site of their new distribution home. The move, which will transfer almost two thousand jobs, 30% of which are currently Bronxites, and will create an additional 1,000 in the next five years, will provide sorely needed jobs in the borough with the highest concentration of unemployment in the State of New York.

Tuesday marks the one-year anniversary of the start of protests in Bahrain. Tens of thousands are expected to take to the streets to protest a government that has committed terrible violence against its own citizens.

When Bahrain's streets awaken in protest tomorrow, will government forces crack down on peaceful demonstrators again? Will there be more tear gas, torture, killings?

We don't know what will happen tomorrow. But we do know that tragedy is not inevitable.

Way to go Jimmy Vacca

NYC Council Member James Vacca will join students and faculty from P.S. 96, which recently received new SMART Boards, iPads and other enhancements to the school’s technology. Vacca provided $200,000 over the last two years through the City Council to fund the project. The enhancements will enable the school to help prepare students to take full advantage of new technology and give teachers new tools to use in the classroom.
