The January meeting of the City Island Civic Association will take place on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. at 190 Fordham Street. They welcome your input and attendance.
They will have updates from our officers, committee reports on Crime, Development, Quality of Life and Traffic, and an open public forum for residents to air and address their grievances.

This workshop meets February 4th and 11th.
Emerging and beginning fiction writers are encouraged to attend this FREE two-part writing workshop led by an award-winning writer.
Dianne Sposito, BRIO winner, writer and teacher, will lead the small group in discussion and writing exercises that will inspire and motivate. Participants should bring a notebook and pencils.

UNICEF appealed today for $1.28 billion to provide humanitarian assistance to children in over 25 countries this year, with nearly one-third of this amount earmarked for the crisis in Africa.
“We have achieved many positive results in emergency settings in 2011 but the urgent and long-term needs of millions of children and their families will continue in 2012,” said Rima Salah, UNICEF’s acting Deputy Executive Director.

Violence has once again erupted in Homs, Syria, only one day after armed forces loyal to President Bashar Assad attacked residential buildings with mortars and machine-gun fire, killing at least 30 people including a family of women and children, according to published reports.
