After only one year, Cablevision decided to close down Newsday’s digital-only Westchester operation: The company reportedly declined to disclose how many employees were laid off.
Now, our nation's highest court has just declined a Cablevision Systems request seeking a stay of National Labor Relations Board proceedings in which the company is involved.

A traditional July 4th celebration featuring music, talks, refreshments, reading of the Declaration of Independence, and tolling of the historic St. Paul's church bell - 13 times. Keynote speaker is Professor Lisa Keller of SUNY Purchase.

It was back in 1963. A historic and tumultuous year for those living in USA:
President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered “I Have a Dream” speech and the ZIP code was first introduced.
USPS was founded in 1775 and postal carriers had to rely on hand sorting based on local addresses. Correspondence went through 10 postal workers before it arrived as your local mail. By the 1940s, the Post Office realized its sorting system was not serving the country properly.

Starting July 1, children in China will have to visit their elderly parents on a regular basis, or at least stay in touch. It's the law!!!
This new law aims to improve the well-being of the elderly. This amended Law of Protection of Rights and Interests of the Aged makes it illegal for people to neglect all spiritual needs of the elderly.
It's already a legal requirement for sons and daughters to see to their parents' physical needs.
However, a new clause says that family members who do not live with their parents should visit or "greet them" frequently.
The West is burning as Death Valley sets a 130 degree heat record. Meanwhile, a dangerous and fast-moving wildfire just north of Phoenix has claimed the lives of 19 elite firefighters, who were dispatched there to stop it.
Prescott, Arizona Fire officials and U.S. Wildland Fire Aviation Service lost contact with the firefighters as fire spread to Yarnell, Arizona, where it burned over structures.
Approximately 250 firefighters were fighting the blaze, but that number is expected to double today.
