Emmanuelle Demoris's Mafrouza Cycle
March 6–11
The Mafrouza cycle comprises five films shot by Emmanuelle Demoris over a two-year period in the neighborhood of the same name, a shantytown built by its inhabitants on the remains of a Greco-Roman necropolis in Alexandria, Egypt. The area has since been destroyed, but the film captures to a remarkable degree the very special people who lived here–their daily lives of struggle and happiness, and the special strength and heterogeneity of the community. The five films of the Mafrouza cycle will be screened once each in chronological order; each is an autonomous work that can be appreciated independent of the others.
MoMA Presents: Herbert Danska's Right On!
March 6–11
Described as "a conspiracy of ritual, street theater, soul music, and cinema," Right On! is a pioneering concert film, a compelling record of radical Black sentiment in 1960s America, and a precursor of the hip-hop revolution in musical culture. Shot guerilla-style on the streets and rooftops of lower Manhattan, it features the original Last Poets performing 28 numbers adapted from their legendary Concept-East Poetry appearance at New York's Paperback Theater in 1969. The film has rarely screened over the past 30 years, and this is the premiere run of MoMA's new restoration. Poets Felipe Luciano, David Nelson, and Amiri Baraka will be present for a post-screening discussion.

11:59 p.m TONIGHT, THE President will be required to initiate the budget process known as sequestration. As Obama is forced by law to trigger $85 billion in automatic budget cuts, now a bipartisan delegation marches to The White House on this first day of March to negotiate. But all are expected to restate long-held positions, making this of a photo op. In fact, now that sequestration has arrived, the budget gridlock gripping Washington may be about to get worse.

NOW WHAT, WASHINGTON?

Congressional leaders will begin wishing and praying to keep hope alive, now that time has run out those automatic spending cuts. They are apparently counting on a higher power to help them, so all these so called sequester cuts they previously agreed on can now be avoided.

The US Senate chaplain opens the day with a prayer: "Rise up, O God, and save us from ourselves." Good luck and they will now wake up and finally realize this is one fine mess they've made for US.

Positive Psychology

Express gratitude. Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what you have — from a roof over your head to good health to people who care about you. When you acknowledge the goodness in your life, you begin to recognize that the source of that goodness lies at least partially outside yourself. In this way, gratitude helps you connect to something larger than your individual experience — whether to other people, nature, or a higher power.
