New York City Peace On The Streets?

Submitted by ub on

New York City residents enjoyed an amazing day on Monday because believe it or not, they lived thru 24 hours without a single report of anyone being shot, stabbed or subject to other sorts of violent crime for the first time in a long time, according to NYPD.

This rare and unique day occurs near the end of a year when New York City's murder rate is on target to hit its lowest point since 1960, according to New York Police Department.

In the next 24 hours, a dozen New Yorkers will be put in the hospital, simply because they got on their bicycle or went for a walk. Traumatic brain injury, loss of limb, in-erasable trauma; this is the reality of walking and bicycling in New York City.

These crashes kill and injure tens of thousands of New Yorkers every year. And 99.5 percent of the time, the New York City Police Department fails to investigate. It’s the inexcusable reason why most drivers who kill never even get a summons.

This Week in History, Nov 25 - Dec 1

Nov 25, 1952
British soldiers leave NY. On this day in 1783, nearly three months after the Treaty of Paris was signed ending the American Revolution, the last British soldiers withdraw from New York City, the last British military position in the United States. After the last Redcoat departed New York, U.S. General George Washington entered the city in triumph to the cheers of New Yorkers. The city had remained in British hands since its capture in September 1776.
