16 deaths were reported in New Jersey, New York, Maryland, North Carolina, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Some of the victims were killed by falling trees. At least one death was blamed on the storm in Canada.

50 NYC HOUSES DESTROYED. Fire and Flooding.
FDNY says a six-alarm fire has destroyed 50 plus homes in the Breezy Point section, with nearly 200 firefighters fighting the blaze.

Notification issued 10/28/12. Due to the impending storm, the following regional transit service disruptions will take effect until further notice: the Staten Island Ferry service will be suspended. Some NY Waterway routes will be disrupted; East River Ferry service is suspended through tomorrow, 10/29 (http://www.nywaterway.com). NJ Transit has implemented a gradual system-wide shutdown of all bus, rail, light rail and Access Link service starting at 4 PM today (http://www.njtransit.com). All PATH train service and stations shut down at 12:01 AM Monday, 10/29 (http://www.panynj.gov/path).

Please take extra special care during this wet, windy and cold weather season. Some conditions may limit sensory abilities and the ability to maintain body heat, so be particularly vigilant about staying warm when you are out in low temperatures.

Wear multiple layers of clothing, a scarf, a winter hat, lined boots and two pairs of socks.

Wear gloves underneath mittens to keep your hands warm.

Serious preparations are underway up and down the eastern seaboard as Hurricane Sandy threatens to bring Superstorm weather conditions to approximately 60 million people.

The center of the hurricane is expected to be near the coast Monday night, according to the National Hurricane and it may strengthen a bit before weakening as it moves over land.
