We Love YouTube

Submitted by ub on

YouTube video streaming started as a brilliant idea, with a clip of a man at the San Diego Zoo gawking at elephants. Since April 23, 2005 every other animal on the planet from monkeys to pandas have all enjoyed fame on YouTube.

The following video clips are some of the most popular videos as well as favorite ones for our staff at City Images:

Chris Christie is full of....

Submitted by ub on

If you were asked to finish this sentence, would you say leadership, hot air, himself, crap, or what?

NJ Governor Chris Christie is one of the most talked-about Republicans in the country on the eve of an election in which he isn't even on the ballot.

Is this déjà vu all over again? He did it back in 2012, when he bonded with President Obama while touring the hurricane-ravaged Jersey Shore.

I WANT TO BE 39 FOREVER

Submitted by ub on

Here are reasons why I wish to be 39 forever:

I have no clue what's on MTV.

When people say older folks they're talking about me.

I'm more likely to forget to have sex than to forget to floss.

If I eat chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast, I've gained an inch of waistline by dinnertime.

I get a full night's sleep, but look like I was up all night. But not up all night doing something cool.

I'm probably never going to be a Solid Gold Dancer, Soul Train or American Bandstand..

The me in my head is like the foxy little brother of the me in the mirror.

If I strolled across a college campus, people would assume teacher, professor Ph.D!

I'm old enough to finally be admitted to the AARP.

Most days, I choose comfort over style. I'm a traitor to my stilettos.

All the tanning I did is showing up now as brown blotches. Get a Sharpie and you could draw.

The Psychedelic Furs, Duran Duran and The Cure are now considered oldies.

Everything I wore in high school has been appropriated ironically by hipsters.

Only a fortysomething is old enough to remember the TV show Thirtysomething. More irony.

Oooh, my aching back, legs, arms, neck...etc.

Ages 31-39 are a total blur. I'm scared I'll blink and be 100.

I still think 33-year-old gals are hot. And they're like, sir?

Why didn't I take topless pictures of myself when I was younger?

I fantasize about taping up the sides of my face. It takes 10 years off instantly.

Touching my toes is not a guarantee.

Forget 50 Shades of Grey - my nightstand is full of Bengay. The apothecary is open!

I even have one of those days-of-the-week vitamin boxes.

If I buy a turtle it might outlive me.

The bad habits I still have are probably here to stay.

I say things like, "What's the name of that actor, you know, he was in that thing?"

I get a hangover from looking at liquor.

My next milestone birthday is... I forgot!

WE WANT YOUR FEEDBACK

Please, consider our blog from various multiple angles and tell us what you do like and do not...

Take our appearance: Does it look decent visually? It doesn’t have to be anything fancy because the world wide web continues to be bare-bones Internet style. But it must communicate a certain level of professionalism and orderliness consistent with the rest of our materials. We can’t have misspellings or glaring typos, for example, whereas we seek appropriate visuals, fonts, and a writing style that communicates professionalism.

Content: blog content does not have to be intense, long, heavily-footnoted scholarly research! It can be short, topical, impressionistic, and footnote-free. However, the content does have to be consistent with your standards and practices. Does it relate to you? Why, or why not?

Are we engage with themes and topics in a substantive way? Many people use blogs to vent and rant. That is a valuable function, and it’s one I endorse. However, rants don’t really serve any of us well. We can absolutely be critical, but please check to see that our tone and approach are thoughtful and constructive. This also includes all those comment threads.

The world is running short on statesmen and on patience as the October 17 deadline draws closer.

Some experts are now predicting panic if our lawmakers do not reach a solution to their self produced crisis.
There are indications that these so called leaders are considering kicking the can down the line, rather than preventing a possible catastrophic meltdown, if the US government falls into default as a result of the debt crisis.

SHUTDOWN SHOWDOWN AMERICAN STYLE

U.S. federal government agencies have shut down for first time in 17 years after Congress fails to reach any final deal on funding and while finger-pointing becomes a favorite Washington pastime.

Republicans and Democrats in Congress keep on trading blame following the government shut-down. Unfortunately, the congressional grandstanding is going to hurt all US taxpayers and the government shutdown is here. Republicans and Democrats didn't reach a spending deal by midnight tonight, so a partial government shutdown is now in effect.

SUMMER HEATWAVE

NYC Emergency Management (OEM) and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene have advised that hot weather could be dangerous to vulnerable populations is forecast through Sunday, July 7.

According to the latest National Weather Service forecast, the heat index is expected to reach or exceed 95 degrees Friday through Sunday. OEM urges New Yorkers to take precautions to prevent serious illness that can result from the heat, especially among vulnerable individuals such as seniors and those with chronic health problems. New Yorkers who are vulnerable should use air conditioning to stay cool, go to a place that has air conditioning if it is not available at home, drink water at regular intervals, and limit strenuous activity, especially during the hottest parts of the day. New Yorkers are urged to check in on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors to help them stay cool.

City cooling centers will be open Sunday, July 7, to help New Yorkers stay cool. Cooling centers are air conditioned places, such as Department for the Aging (DFTA) senior centers, libraries, and community centers, that are open to the public during heat emergencies. To find the cooling center closest to you, call 311 (TTY: 212-504-4115) or visit OEM’s Cooling Center Locator at www.nyc.gov/oem.

FACTS ABOUT HEAT ILLNESS

Heat illness is serious. Prolonged exposure to the heat can be harmful and potentially fatal. The added stress caused by heat can also aggravate heart or lung disease even without symptoms of heat illness. The risk for getting sick during a heat wave is increased for people who:

Do not have or do not use air conditioning
Are age 65 or older
Have chronic medical or mental health conditions
Take certain medications, which can disrupt the regulation of body temperature
Confined to their beds, trouble with being mobile, or are unable to leave their homes
Are severely overweight
Consume alcohol or illegal drugs

KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS OF HEAT STRESS

If you (or someone you know) feels weak or faint, go to a cool place and drink water. If there is no improvement, call a doctor or 911.

Call 911 immediately if you have, or someone you know has:

Hot dry skin OR cold clammy skin
Trouble breathing
Rapid heartbeat
Confusion, disorientation, or dizziness
Nausea and vomiting

CHECK ON THOSE PARTICULARLY VULNERABLE TO THE HEAT

A small but crucial gesture can help ensure that we all have a safe and healthy summer: Get to know your neighbors, and contact neighbors and relatives — in person or by phone — at least twice a day during heat waves.

Pay special attention to the elderly, the very young, and anyone with a medical condition. New Yorkers should check in on older neighbors who may be isolated from friends and family.
Air conditioning is the best way to keep cool when it is hot outside, but some people do not have an air conditioner or do not turn it on when they need it. Encourage them to use air conditioning. Help them get to an air-conditioned place if they cannot stay cool at home. Make sure they are drinking enough water.

ADDITIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY TIPS FOR PROTECTION AGAINST THE HEAT

Stay out of the sun—avoid extreme temperature changes.
Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing. Light colors reflect some of the sun’s energy.
Drink fluids—particularly water—even if you do not feel thirsty. Your body needs water to keep cool. (Those on fluid-restricted diets or taking diuretics should first consult their physician.) Water is the safest liquid to drink during heat emergencies. Avoid beverages containing alcohol and/or caffeine.
Eat small, frequent meals. Avoid strenuous activity, especially during the sun’s peak hours—11 A.M.
to 4 P.M. If you must do strenuous activity, do it during the coolest part of the day, which is usually in the morning between 4 A.M. and 7 A.M.
If possible, go to an air-conditioned building for several hours during the hottest parts of the day.
New York City may open cooling centers around the five boroughs. When cooling centers do open, call 311 or go to nyc.gov to find the nearest center.
Cool down with a cool bath or shower.
Participate in activities that will keep you cool, such as going to the movies, shopping at a mall, or swimming at a pool or beach.
Cover all exposed skin with an SPF sunscreen (15 or above); wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your face and head.
Never leave your children or pets in the car.

SEX AFTER SIXTY

Submitted by Admin on

You may have heard the old saying: "There may be snow on the roof but there's still fire in the furnace." It means age has little to with urge. And yet, all too often, men and women needlessly forgo the opportunity to enjoy a rich, satisfying, and active sex life as they get older.

The baby boomers who led the sexual revolution in the Sixties are now well into their sixties. And the sexual revolution revolution appears to continue.

This is a revolution that challenges long-held views on sexuality and aging. It’s reinforcing that adults in their 60s and beyond can have healthy and happy sex lives.

Midlife can be a springboard to renewed sexual expression and connection. Some women feel more relaxed about sex once their child-bearing days are past. The changes a man experiences can be an impetus for developing a new and more fulfilling style of lovemaking.

Just to get you in the right mood for the new attitude which has to be adopted, here are some blasts from the past. And please make sure you remember that when it comes to sex, attitude matters more than age!

The Rocket. Boomerang Style

I was putting stuff together and looking at links, this really stuck out to me as something fun to post...mainly because this type of thing never happens. Not "normally doesn't happen", NEVER happens. Nolan Ryan was an old fart when he retired from pitching. He was 46. Buuuutttt....Roger Clemens is 50. He hasn't played in the MLB in close to 5 years. He's gone through court, went through it again, and is still kicking it.
