Marking the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, United Nations senior officials today highlighted the key role played by the media in empowering indigenous people, stressing that traditional and new media are an essential component to help them preserve their cultures, participate in the social and political aspects of their societies and challenge stereotypes.

Temple Beth El, Your Shul by the Sea, hosted a fundraising barbecue at #2 Bay Street, City Island, the exquisite home of Ken Binder and Steve Roth, with a glorious view of the water. Fifty four temple members as well as residents of City Island, friends and family member attended.

As City Island Images reported months ago, New York is planning to start building a new $150 million bridge the community does not want. As a result, City Islanders, along with Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., NYC Comptroller John Liu and City Council Transportation Committee Chairman James Vacca are finally calling on the City’s Department of Transportation to begin the formal public input process regarding the scheduled construction of the new City Island Bridge, slated for next year, through ULURP as soon as possible.
