Famed author Gore Vidal Dies at age 86 of complications from pneumonia (1925–2012).

The playwright, politician and commentator made his career by always challenging power. His writings were exceptional. Here are some of City Island Images' favorite quotes.

"The United States was founded by the brightest people in the country — and we haven't seen them since."

"Think of the earth as a living organism that is being attacked by billions of bacteria whose numbers double every forty years. Either the host dies, or the virus dies, or both die."

Since it's inception last year, City Island Images has continually grown a significant following as a result of our daily news and information service. As a result of our daily news coverage and our live video streaming of midtown City Island, City Island Images has been featured in Sunday's New York Post, as well as other local newspapers.

This 28K figure is several times the population of City Island and nearly 10 times the circulation of The Island Current, which only publishes 10 times a year.

A friend sent me a video this morning of Dennis Prager, who was on a panel discussion at the University of Denver, previous to the 2010 election. In the eight minute video clip he goes over a few key points, the main thrust of his talk is that we Americans can not articulate what it is to be an American and exactly what American exceptional-ism is. He suggests that we have forgotten or have never known.
