Fleet Week 2012 events are scheduled from today, 5/22/12 through Wednesday, 5/30/12.

These events will include military aircraft flyovers, aerial demonstrations, and static/stationary exhibitions throughout the NYC area.

More event-specific information may be issued as it becomes available.

New York City's top four historic sites are the proud winners of an online competition for grants of up to $250,000.

The Brooklyn Public Library, Congregation Beth Elohim in Park Slope, NY Botanical Gardens and Bartow-Pell Mansion were all named winners of the Partners in Preservation Grant.

Ellen Bruzelius, Executive Director of Bartow-Pell Mansion tells City Island Images that she is very excited and now looks forward to beginning that long awauted garden renovation project.

New Mobile Science Carts

NYC Council Member James Vacca welcomed two new mobile science lab carts to Van Nest Academy this morning.

These new carts, which can be transferred to each classroom throughout the school, were made possible through a $60,000 grant that Vacca secured through the City Council.

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. is congratulating New York Botanical Garden and Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum & Gardens for being among the top four popular vote winners in the 2012 Partners in Preservation Initiative, co-sponsored by American Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The New York Botanical Garden received 7% of the popular vote and has been awarded $250,000 to restore its rock garden. The Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum & Gardens also received 7% of the popular vote and has been awarded $155,000 to restore areas within the museum’s gardens.

Crowley Seeks Burma Sanctions

US Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), has just announced that he reintroduced legislation to renew sanctions on Burma's military regime. House Joint Resolution 109 will continue the ban on all imports from Burma as part of the Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act.

The Picture House offers film education classes for all ages, from 1-100 years old. We have an exciting slate planned for June with classes in acting, directing, screenwriting and animation. We've also started reserving spots for our intensive week-long Summer Movie Making Camp in July, so act fast.
