On the CW Post campus of Long Island University, an early morning accident left one LIU faculty member wounded in the leg during a discharge of his weapon. The adjunct instructor was hospitalized with a non-life threatening injury. The professor has been identified as 72 year old John Carney, from the College of Management. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is listed in stable condition.

Arab Spring: Affect on Egypt
Thousands of Islamist protestors turned out to Tahrir Square to challenge the authority of Egypt’s military council that seized power nine months ago with the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. joined Comité Noviembre and the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation to celebrate Puerto Rican Heritage Month. Borough President Diaz honored community leaders for their accomplishments presenting citations to the 2011 honorees including Bill Aguado, former president of the Bronx Council on the Arts; Elizabeth Figueroa, director of community relations at the New York Botanical Garden; and Ricardo Fernandez, President of Lehman College. Dahlma Llanos Figueroa, award winning author of “Daughters of Stone,” served as the event’s keynote speaker.
The Federal Trade Commission has released the list of top consumer complaints received by the agency. The list showed that for the 11th year in a row, identity theft was the number one consumer complaint category. Of 1,339,265 complaints received in 2010, 250,854 – or 19 percent – were related to identity theft. Debt collection complaints were in second place, with 144,159 complaints.

UN SAYS DEFORESTATION THREATENS GLOBAL ECONOMY & COMMUNITY
Deforestation not only threatens the planet’s climate and national economic development, but also communities whose income, culture and way of life depend on healthy forests, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stressed today on a visit to Indonesia.
Mr. Ban was in the Central Kalimantan region of Borneo, which has been chosen by the Indonesian Government for a pilot programme of the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) initiative.

Acclaimed organist Kathryn Jones performs a holiday concert on the 1830 Erben, at St. Paul’s Church National Historic, Site, in Mt. Vernon, NY, on Sunday, December 18, beginning at 2 PM. The recital, on one of the nation’s oldest working pipe organs, features classical selections as well as traditional carols and Holiday favorites, accompanied by soprano.
