Following that auction, which brought about the sale and future tittle transfer of Rat Island from a former City Islander to a present City Island resident, another somewhat mysterious auction took place, and the outcome was not as clear this time around.

The City Island Civic Association is seeking your input on the proposed apartment building to be built on City Island. Please attend a meeting this coming Tuesday at the Community Board 10 office on Tremont Avenue.

The details:

Dr. Mignone of the Italian Hospital Society is planning to present his senior housing project at the Community Board’s Zoning and Housing Committee meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 pm at the Community Board office (3165 East Tremont Avenue).

Any City Islander who happens to be interested in weighing in on this project is invited to attend this meeting.

CITY ISLANDER BUYS RAT ISLAND AT TODAY'S AUCTION

Longtime City Island resident Alex Schibli became the highest bidder when the Rat Island auction ended this afternoon. The Swiss-born engineer will pay 73-year-old Edmund "Red" Brennen a total of $716K for the one plus acre island, which is made up entirely of rock. Red, who now lives in Jupiter, Florida, and is a former City Islander, reportedly paid $5K for Rat Island in 1972. He's pictured on the right wearing the biker suspenders.

Given the unpredictability of life, some would think twice before taking their beloved classic vehicle to a caravan, or antique car show because it is always a risk. First there are all those people wandering around with their kids, drinks, food and such. There's also a chance of a scratch, or a smudge. Or even the possibility of a dent if you're really unlucky. But the folks who participated today were as lucky as they could be. The weather was also pleasant.
