NYC GREENER BY 20,000 TREES

Volunteers will plant 5,000 trees in Floyd Bennett Field as part of MillionTreesNYC Fall Planting Day. More than 20,000 trees will be planted citywide. The day will also kick off 40th Anniversary celebrations at Gateway National Recreation Area that will be on-going all year long.

Other activities throughout the day include hikes of the trails of the North Forty Natural Area, tours of the renovated Ryan Visitor Center, wilderness skills classes, special tours of historic aircraft at Hangar B, and Gateway’s 40th Anniversary Campfire Program which will be held in the evening.

As Halloween approaches, US weather forecasters are frightened about the possibility of a monster storm slamming into the mainland. Frankenstein, which is also called the monster is a fictional character, but according to experts this one is the real deal.

Frankenstorm is a monster combination of high wind, heavy rain, extreme tides and perhaps even a snow storm to boot. The snow could possibly cause havoc along the East Coast around the time the nation celebrates an annual Halloween holiday.

This broadcast foreshadowed the future of radio. Lee DeForest, Edwin Armstrong, Guglielmo Marconi, Nikola Tesla, David Sarnoff, and Fessenden were all considered to be the fathers of radio and radio as we know it now would not be the same without these men and many others.

US forecasters are warning citizens living in and around our nation's most populated region to beware of the coming storm.

The US East Coast has a chance of getting blasted by gale-force winds, flooding, heavy rain and snow early next week as a result of a hybrid of hurricane and winter storm.

LAGI - Land Art Generator Initiative

The Land Art Generator Initiative (LAGI) invited interdisciplinary teams to submit design ideas for public artwork that can generate hundreds of megawatt-hours of electricity from wind, solar, or other renewable sources. This year’s teams designed site-specific artwork for Freshkills Park in Staten Island.

Over 250 entries were received. An exhibit featuring these entries will be on display at the SoHo Gallery for Digital Art now through the end of October 2012.
