Crumbling Infrastructure

Over $3 Billion dollars are needed to upgrade America’s fractured infrastructure. Lead pipes are poisoning our children, railways, highways and bridges are broken down and need emergency repairs.

With a grading system depicts the condition and performance of the nation’s infrastructure in the familiar form of a school report card by assigning letter grades based on the physical condition and needed investments for improvement.

“Look up here, I’m in Heaven!” is the opening line of David Bowie’s off Broadway production, Lazarus, which premiered earlier this month two days before the artist’s death. Known for innovating the world of music, Bowie revisited the theater as a creative way to say goodbye as he lost his battle with cancer. Many of the retrospectives on his unique life include his innovation in the financial world too.

When women rule the world, it will probably be a kinder, gentler place to live in. Wake up, world, the greater gender is already the clear majority.

Not only in politics, but in math and science, and it now turns out male teachers have been outnumbered inside the classroom.

That glass ceiling everyone talks about is going to be dismantled and reassembled as a retractable skylight, presumably so our female bosses can have their herb garden with better northern exposure.

US Rail Defects

Another round of targeted rail inspections intended to improve public safety and reduce potential dangers associated with the transport of crude oil. NY Inspection teams examined 756 crude oil tank cars, approximately 239 miles of track and 51 switches. Overall, state and federal teams uncovered and addressed three critical defects and 66 non-critical defects.

Future of TV Football

The NFL is America’s most profitable television production. It dominates weekly television ratings each fall and completely takes over more than a third of American television sets on a day in early February each year. In 1939, NBC became the first network to televise a live professional football game. The Philadelphia Eagles game against the Brooklyn Dodgers was filmed with two cameras and a staff of 8. They reached 1000 television sets in New York City. Today NFL games drag in an audience of over 17 million viewers for an average regular season game.

MARIST Scholarship

TV Celebrity and Fox News Channel superstar host Bill O’Reilly donated $1 million to create a new scholarship fund at Marist College. O’Reilly is a member of Marist’s class of 1971.

The Peter P. O’Keefe, PhD. Endowed Scholarship provides financial support on a yearly basis, with O’Reilly meet9ng with the scholarship recipients. These recipients will be selected based on their promise in academic and leadership roles, as well as financial need.

Health Care, Terrorism, and Jobs Most Critical Issues

When asked what issues are most important to them personally, Americans are more likely to
cite health care (63%), terrorism (62%), and jobs and unemployment (60%) than any other issue.
A majority (53%) of Americans report that crime is a critical issue to them personally. Slightly fewer
say the cost of education (49%), economic inequality (48%), and immigration (46%) are critical
