After much of the nation enjoyed a mild weekend, frigid weather is returning with a vengeance. Colder days are on their way for a large chunk of the #USA.
National Weather Service forecasters are warning of "dangerously cold wind chills" over portions of the central USA. Over the next few days, temperatures will be 20 to 30 degrees below average across the nation's northern tier.

A winter storm will continue heavy snow, localized blizzard conditions, and ice from the upper Midwest into New England into Tuesday. Further south severe thunderstorms may bring large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain with flooding over portions of the mid-Mississippi Valley and Deep South. Another winter storm will develop over the Southwest midweek tracking across the U.S. into late week.

The arctic air, together with brisk winds, can lead to dangerously cold wind chill values. People exposed to extreme cold are susceptible to frostbite in a matter of minutes. Areas most prone to frostbite are uncovered skin and the extremities, such as hands and feet. Hypothermia is another threat during extreme cold. Hypothermia occurs when the body loses heat faster than it can produce.
