EASTER SUNDAY

Pope Leo XIV celebrated his first Easter as pontiff by delivering a powerful plea for peace in his "Urbi et Orbi" address. Addressing thousands in St. Peter’s Square, he urged global leaders to end wars in Iran and Ukraine, abandon desires for conquest, and combat the "globalization of indifference."

The Pontiff Leo is the first U.S.-born pope, criticized the "violence of war that kills and destroys" and called on those with power to choose dialogue over force.

  • Easter Vigil: On Saturday night, he presided over the Easter Vigil in St. Peter’s Basilica, symbolizing the transition from darkness to light and baptizing 10 new adult converts.
  • Urbi et Orbi: In his traditional Sunday message "to the city and the world," he offered greetings in ten languages and urged an end to conflicts.

Pope Leo XIV has emerged as a pointed critic of Donald Trump, especially over the ongoing Iran war, marking a significant shift in Vatican messaging. After months of avoiding direct political commentary, Pope Leo has begun openly urging Trump to de-escalate the Iran conflict, calling for a peaceful “off-ramp” and condemning war-driven leadership.
