Electronic Journalists are doomed. That’s what I was told while discussing the future of news media with a veteran shooter.

This person has decades of shooting expertise. Producing hundreds of hours of live, local, and network news sports weather, and programming to ensure the timely production of newscasts and special projects. Their consistent track record in the fast-paced, high-pressure environment of daily local news gathering. They possess excellent interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic.

This electronic journalist can

  • Set up and implement live and recorded elements for newscasts
  • Edit segments and assemble video elements for shows
  • Assist with the upkeep of equipment inventory
  • Produce ENG newsgathering, including shooting, editing, and live shots, working with a reporter or alone.
  • Work any shift, including holidays.
  • Operate a MW live truck.
  • Candidates need to have a clean driving record.
  • Lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds of equipment.
  • Prove understanding of P2 camera systems, Adobe Premiere Pro editing, and bonded cellular transmission technologies (Dejero and Live U)
  • Use of smaller cameras, such as the Sony FX9, adjustable lenses, multi-camera shooting, and working with complex and creative lighting solutions

According to published reports, It is impossible to predict the future. Case in point: Back in 1946, 20th Century Fox studio executive and Oscar-winning film producer Daryl F. Zanuck opined by saying that television was a fad that would run its course in six months. People will soon get tired of staring at a plywood box every night.

Television not only changed the industry, it changed the world. And over time this medium that seemed like a flash in the pan developed its own identity, not just as an industry but as an art form. Brilliant writers like Paddy Chayefsky https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0154665/ and Rod Serling https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0785245/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 helped push the stories told on television into exciting and challenging directions, setting the stage for ambitious standalone and serialized entertainments that wowed audiences and made a genuine impact.
