Florida Meets Elsa

The Sate of Florida is bracing for a potentially life-threatening storm surge ahead of Tropical Storm Elsa’s expected tour.

Elsa is expected pass near the Florida Keys Tuesday and move near or over portions of the west coast of the Florida peninsula.Tropical storm conditions, dangerous storm surge, and heavy rainfall are possible along the Keys and portions of the west coast; along with isolated tornadoes throughout the state. Severe thunderstorms capable of mainly damaging winds are possible over a portion of the Northeast.

As Tropical Storm Elsa moves near the lower Florida Keys The National Hurricane Center says the storm would then pass near or over portions of The Sunshine State western region by late Wednesday. The Governor has expanded an existing state of emergency to cover a dozen counties.

In addition to heavy rain, a few tornadoes are possible across the Florida Peninsula. The storm is posing a new threat to rescue efforts at the condo building that collapsed in Surfside, just outside Miami, on June 24. On Monday, lightning forced crews to pause the search for victims and a garage area in the rubble filled with water, officials said. The collapse killed 28 people and 117 remain missing, authorities said.
