FREE ADVICE

Here is some insightful and encouraging words. Do not allow one experience to define you. Use the opportunity to grow and thrive.

It goes to show the impact that supportive guidance can have on someone's journey. I was once told that I gave good phone advice. These words were from a well-known activist who committed a crime and I suggested he turn himself in to authorities.

Years ago, one of my students was a bad fit for a class and decided to drop it. On their last day, I was asked for advice.

I said- Just because you didn't fit doesn't mean you won't fit elsewhere. This is only one of many academic courses. You'll find one more suited for you. Whatever issues you had there, you can learn from them but don't burden yourself with them at your next one.

Don't second-guess yourself. Whatever definition you have for yourself here, this isn't the definition you must drag to your next one. You have a unique opportunity—you can define yourself however you want at your next challenge. That person went on to do great things and is now successful, excelling, thriving, and doing fantastic.

There are many times when I could have crashed and burned because the opportunity wasn't for me.

We should all learn to move on, heal, grow, and some even wind up doing good things for all. Find the best place for you.
