JAZZ IS AMERICA'S DNA

Submitted by ub on

Consider enjoying the American rhythms of urgent beats, syncopation, improvisation, and the sound of impromptu Jazz solos.

Jazz originated in the late-19th to early-20th century. It developed out of many forms of music, including bluesspiritualshymnsmarchesvaudeville songs, ragtime, and dance music.

It also incorporated interpretations of American and European classical music, entwined with African and slave folk songs and the influences of West African culture. Its composition and style have changed many times throughout the years with each performer's interpretation and improvisation, which is also one of the greatest appeals of the genre

If there was one theme that fans notice while sorting through the volume of recordings at the top of the heap in jazz, it is that time does not take its toll on great music.

"Take Five," was the first jazz single to sell 1 million copies, was the undisputed top choice, while Miles Davis' "So What" which was coincidentally recorded in the same year, 1959 is the clear second favorite.

South Florida has had a special soft spot for jazz for many years. As a university student and Miami Jazz fan, I recall enjoying and listening to China Valles radio broadcasts - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rf-zCsNg5hc then DJ SS temporarily left the airwaves https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMqkt3CTIAs He then moved to Islamorada and began broadcasting from Miami Beach. https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=PuEN0nY1B6UY1s2f&v=roIXNhdqKYg&feature… This is when I had the opportunity to meet and play music inside the WBUS-FM Studio with the one and only, Symphony Sid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_2Cnc7u4VE

Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New OrleansLouisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chordscall-and-response vocalspolyrhythms, and improvisation.

Jazz also has roots in African rhythmic rituals.
