"Make Español Great Again" When I was an NBC News producer, and then later as a Telemundo news executive I would always tell anyone who would listen that combining both organizations and hiring bilingual news-gathering employees was the way to go.

"Make Español Great Again" and actually backing that claim from World Cup 2026.

The numbers actually back you it more than "dominant" alone captures, it's the growth curve that's the real story.

Telemundo's coverage averaged 6.3 million viewers across 104 matches, up 143% from 2.6 million in 2022, and the Spain-Argentina final drew 23.9 million viewers on Telemundo alone, the most-watched soccer match in Spanish-language media history. Streaming told an even bigger story: Peacock and Telemundo streaming averaged 3 million viewers per minute, a 297% jump from 767,000 in 2022. NewscastStudio + 2

Where it gets interesting for your "dominant language" framing: nearly 39 million watched the final on Fox versus nearly 24 million on Telemundo, so English still drew the bigger raw crowd. But NBCUniversal executives are now saying Spanish-language programming has become central to Peacock's whole streaming strategy, not just a side channel, and Telemundo has passed Univision to become the No. 1 Spanish-language network on both TikTok and YouTube. So the more defensible claim isn't "Spanish overtook English"  it's that Spanish-language sports media crossed from niche-but-loyal into a first-tier, ad-dollar-driving business this cycle.
