They say that history repeats itself as the #MSGOP Trump Fascist rally quickly spiraled into an unsettling display of hate speech.
At an "America First" rally, February 20, 1939, eighty-one years ago.Last night, multiple speakers targeted Latinos, and Vice President Kamala Harris with slurs and dehumanizing language. Notably, podcast host Tony Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as "a floating island of garbage" and made offensive remarks about Latino families.
Tucker Carlson, former Fox News host, mocked Harris’s ethnicity, while former Trump aide Stephen Miller amplified rhetoric against immigrants. These remarks, drawing cheers from parts of the audience, revealed the bitter undertone of the rally and the groups subjected to these attacks: Latinos, immigrants, and political opponents.
But this rally wasn’t the first time Madison Square Garden has been a stage for divisive, inflammatory language. On February 20, 1939, it hosted a rally organized by the German American Bund, where Nazi sympathizers gathered under banners of hate, aimed at dividing America by race and religion. Speakers praised an authoritarian vision for the United States, much like the rhetoric heard today.

It can’t happen here? Yes, it did and it has once again. Back then 20,000 people attended, and Fritz Julius Kuhn was a featured speaker. The Bund billed the event, which took place two days before George Washington's Birthday, as a pro-"Americanism" rally; the stage at the event featured a huge Washington portrait with swastikas on each side.
Approximately 100,000 anti-Nazi counter-protesters gathered outside, attempting to break through lines of police officers guarding the rally on three occasions. The Bund rapidly declined in the aftermath of the rally, with Kuhn being imprisoned for embezzlement by the end of the year.

In light of these parallels, a critical question emerges: Is this the America we want to pass down to future generations? Rallying around hate and division mirrors an era many of us thought was far behind The United State of America.
What kind of country should we handing down to our children’s children by allowing Donald Trump who hosted a rally at Madison Square Garden to witness hate rhetoric. The president again called for a mass deportation program of illegal immigrants if he is reelected. He also repeated stark criticisms on and at times resorted to personal attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris, saying she killed 50,000 manufacturing jobs in 2024.
The former president also announced a new policy supporting a tax credit for those caring for a parent or loved one, in contrast to Vice President Kamala Harris' proposal to broaden Medicare to help families who are struggling to pay for home care for an aging or sick parent. Before Mr. Trump spoke, several elected officials who support the former president spoke on his behalf, including Florida Rep. Byron Donalds (R) and New York Rep. Elise Stefanik (R). Former 2024 GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy also spoke.
