TRIPLE D DAY

Did you know that protest songs have always been inextricably linked to marginalized groups speaking out against an unjust world?

Several published lists span nearly a century and include everything from pre-World War II jazz and Sixties folk to Eighties house music, 2000s R&B, and 2020s Cuban hip-hop.

Millions attended “No Kings” protests across the country Saturday, denouncing what organizers describe as President Donald Trump’s authoritarian policies.

Thousands of protests were held as Trump presided over a parade in Washington, DC. The event celebrating the 250th anniversary of the US Army, which coincided with the president’s birthday, featured tanks and other military hardware rolling through the nation’s capital.

Following a day of mass demonstrations proceeded peacefully, some protesters clashed with police in downtown Los Angeles ahead of a nighttime curfew. Protests against Trump’s immigration crackdown in LA were a flashpoint in a week of nationwide demonstrations.

There were canceled protests in Minnesota after a gunman shot two state lawmakers and their spouses early Saturday morning, killing one of the couples. In Texas, the state Capitol was evacuated due to a “credible threat” against legislators planning to attend a protest.

At the end of the day 11 million Americans came out to exercise their First Amendment rights to oppose the devastating erosion of the constitution by the current administration. We now demand that Congress and the government hold the Trump regime accountable - for unconscionable pardons of January 6 insurrectionists, unconstitutional deployment of the military, cruel family separations, deadly abortion bans harming women’s health, and the dangerous Project 2025 agenda that threatens the very foundation of our democracy. That's not even including the attacks on organized labor, political and community leaders, which in some cases have had deadly outcomes.
