SCOTUS & JONESY

Submitted by ub on

The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear Alex Jones’ appeal, effectively upholding the massive defamation judgments, totaling about $1.4 billion, that were awarded to the families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims.

  • Closes Jones' final major legal avenue to escape or overturn those judgments.
  • Leaves in place the lower court rulings, which found that Jones and his media company, Infowars, repeatedly and knowingly spread false claims that the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax.
  • Follows multiple court decisions in Connecticut and Texas, where juries awarded hundreds of millions in damages for the emotional and reputational harm caused by his lies.

Although Jones has filed for bankruptcy, the courts and plaintiffs have challenged that process, arguing he is trying to shield his wealth. With the Supreme Court rejecting his appeal, the families can now continue efforts to collect the judgments.
