SING

This dark image is of me on TV.  I’m in the front row on the left next to the man with a full beard. while singing on PBS Television

I may be losing my voice but I used to have a nice one. I sang harmony well and enjoyed singing along with a local  NYC choral group, and with a rock band, and in the shower.

The activity brought me a lot of joy, but now, my voice sounds like I have a permanent cold. I also used to play music competently, but now I can no longer reach the high notes. It's very difficult to accept this new reality.

I don't think younger people realize that the talents we had in our youth might no longer be available after we reach an older age.

Tell me what do you think is a difficult aspect of living in the USA that most do not talk about. Finally, my inability to sleep in is one regret. The older I get, the earlier my body wakes us up. We don't necessarily need to be up for anything any morning, but our body has decided to go to work. When I was younger and in college, sleeping 12–14 hours was considered completely normal and acceptable when there's nothing to do. I would pay big money if I could get 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep and actually feel well-rested when I finally wake up.
