STAY POSITIVE

Submitted by ub on

Does negativity in the world keep getting you down? You’re not alone but don’t give in. Everyone can use more positivity.

Control negative thoughts and emotions

Our mind is programmed to respond to negative emotions in the same way. So every time we feel fearful, we automatically shut ourselves off from the outside world and limit our options.

It’s crucial to emphasize that it’s not about avoiding feeling fear or anger or thinking negative thoughts.

Stuff happens. But it’s how we respond that matters. If we choose to be victimized by what happens, our negative energy will gain momentum. Instead:

  • Stop thinking about it if there’s nothing we can do to improve it.
  • Do not talk about it any more than we have to. Don’t give it energy!
  • Find the blessings and lessons in any situation. This may take some time, but if we stay busy looking for them, we won’t dwell on how something negatively impacted us.

Stop focusing on problems, diseases, illnesses... etc.

The more energy we give to what is wrong, the more it persists.

Yes, we all need to vent once in a while venting, or even when we’re just thinking about what’s wrong, here are some rules:

  • Don’t think or say: “I’m so sick, I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck! I don’t know how I’m going to get through the week!” Do think or say: “I caught some bug but I’m taking good care of myself and I’m feeling better every day!”
  • Don’t think or say: “This job is terrible! My boss is a jerk and nobody appreciates me!” Do think or say: “I’m looking for a better job and meantime I’m trying to learn as much as I can so I benefit. My boss is the perfect example of how not to treat employees!”

Meditate

The use of meditation is to realize that everything including thoughts, emotions, and even feelings has one nature.

They are impermanent. They occur and they dissipate out of our control. So as we practice meditation, what we're practicing is dissociating ourselves from our thoughts and emotions, with any construct that we perceive as self. It’s called a transpersonal consciousness that allows us to dwell on the positive energy of love, compassion, joy, peace, and unity.

Meditation practice helps you cultivate presence in the moment. When we withdraw ourselves from the outside world, we tap into the essence of the present moment. And being fully in the present moment, we tap into higher consciousness devoid of fear and anxiety.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lju6h-C37hE

Avoid gossip

Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.

~ Eleanor Roosevelt

Not only is gossiping unethical and toxic, but it also instantly lowers your vibration. Why is it so?

At the core of it, gossip is about criticizing and judging others. Remember that everything is energy, so when we place our focus on judging others, we project negative energy, that will get back to us.

Gossiping drags our energy down and kickstarts the negative flow of energy. It works both ways – when we gossip and when we are engaged in gossiping.

Every time we allow this in our energy field, we lower our vibration.

To eliminate gossip from our life, choose the right friends with whom we can share our perspectives, and discuss ideas.

Whenever our family members start gossiping if we can’t avoid it or change the course of it, communicate our position lovingly and compassionately.

Don't fall asleep with media

It’s a rule of thumb that you shall reduce exposure to mass media and social media as much as possible, as they can easily drag your energy down.

We should especially stay away from violent TV shows and news that activate and reinforce our instinctive reactions.

And we should never fall asleep with the TV on because not only will it disrupt our circadian rhythms due to blue light exposure but also affect our subconscious.

When you are asleep, your mind goes into delta brainwave frequency. Delta waves are the slowest of all. It’s the direct access to your subconscious. And it’s the ideal choice for deep and powerful reprogramming.

So instead of exposing your subconscious to whatever is played on TV, you can listen to positive affirmations instead or meditation for deep relaxation while you are sleeping.

You will feel rejuvenated and uplifted the next morning.

Journal moments of gratitude each day

This study, published in the Journal of Research in Personalityexamined a group of 90 undergraduate students who were split into two groups. The first group wrote about an intensely positive experience each day for three consecutive days. The second group wrote about a control topic.

Three months later, the students who wrote about positive experiences had better mood levels, fewer visits to the health center, and experienced fewer illnesses. Gratitude is one of the highest vibrational emotions that you can experience.

And when we journal our moment of gratitude every day, we instantly raise our vibration by simply thinking about those positive experiences. Remember, that your subconscious mind doesn’t make a difference between actual reality and imaginary. What you imagine is as real as what you perceive with your 5 senses. So thinking about positive moments has the same effect as experience.

Journaling allows us to repeat and relive our favorite experiences.

Acknowledge blessings in our life and write down at least five things that we are grateful for every day.

Visualize the best scenarios

As mentioned above, we can use our imagination to ‘trick’ our minds into positive thinking.

We tend to create the worst scenarios in our mind, but instead, visualize what can go right, instead of what can go wrong. Visualize the best-case scenario.

Be solution-oriented, not problem-oriented. Think only about the ideal situation, not the current problematic situation.

Forget past problems

You can’t undo anything. It’s done. Forgive others, forgive yourself.

Learn from our mistakes, learn from others’ mistakes, and remember that no unkind or thoughtless action ever comes from love but from a place of deep inner pain. We can be compassionate to that pain without condoning the acting out of it and release the energetic burden we carry: grudges, resentments, pain, hurt, disappointments, sadness, anger, and guilt. Let it go.

Laugh and Smile

“Laughter is the best medicine.” Numerous studies have proven that laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies.

Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals, which in their turn, promote an overall sense of well-being.

Surround ourselves with upbeat people who make you laugh. Laugh as often as we can.

Sweat it off

Exercise physically removes us from problems, and it also removes us mentally. If we’re worried about something, we need to give our brains a chance to process things.

When we work out, our body produces BDBF brain-derived neurotrophic factor) a protein that helps repair brain cells damaged by stress.

Exercising also floods our system with feel-good endorphins and instantly releases stress.

And in the middle of a long bike ride, walk, or swim… or in the middle of the climbing wall, we may suddenly have an epiphany. Or, at least for a while, we will be fully present and not worried about the future.
