Recently in NYC, there were two rare moments when performers chose to give voice to the 200 million or so of us American voters.
These were incredibly powerful moments. It’s inspiring to see artists using their platforms to voice the frustrations and concerns of so many, especially on such a pivotal issue.
Ladies first, “The Lighthouse” seems to be a rallying cry for those advocating for women’s rights and pushing back against oppressive forces. Then at MSG where the energy from Mr. Wonder made the audience feel electric, reflecting the collective desire for change and justice. It’s moments like these that remind us of the impact of music and performance on social movements. Here’s hoping that the upcoming elections lead to meaningful shifts in representation and policy. Can We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart” feels like a fitting tune for an election year, and it marks Wonder’s first new music since the last presidential election cycle
For years, We The People have been in a rage that the Supreme Leader in America aka SCOTUS the group of 5 or 6 religious right-wingers who rule over what women can and cannot do with their bodies in this once-free nation before they overturn Roe v. Wade.
The great Stevies, Ms. Nicks, and Mr. Wonder each shared their rage over this injustice and sang for the first time live on national stages new songs about those who have committed this atrocity against justice.
It’s called “The Lighthouse” — jaws dropped as she belted out one fiercely brutal lyric after another aimed squarely at the Court, at Trump, at #MAGA Nation — and imploring all women to take a stand, to fight back now, it’s not too late.
The audience at the end exploded with cheers and applause, so much so it felt like the roof was going to fly away. It was a moment to behold and a reminder that DJT, the “Justices”, the Republicans, the Bishops, and misogynists everywhere are just days away from having their bigoted, hateful asses hopefully handed to them on a golden platter that we still call “Democracy.”
