Let us take a closer look at USA's favorite comic genius, then the best US journalist well known as the most trusted man in America.

Comedian William Claude Dukenfield, aka WC Fields, told tall tales, and straight-out lies about himself that it is difficult to sort fact from fiction.

If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with the bull.

You can fool some of the people some of the time -- and that's enough to make a decent living.

Attitude is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than what people do or say. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill.

Journalist Walter Leland Cronkite led Americans to Saigon, Jonestown, and Selma, then broke the bad news from Dallas that JFK was dead. and opened our eyes wide to Vietnam. I am referring to when he healed our nation.

In 1968 the definitive turn in his career was when he returned from a reporting tour of Vietnam convinced the war was unwinnable. He talked it over with CBS News President Richard Salant, who suggested Cronkite do a commentary at the end of a Vietnam special report.

Cronkite was uncertain whether he should share his opinion but was assured America believed him. Walter decided to do it and was reportedly ready for the consequences “If the people felt that I ought to leave the ‘Evening News,’ I’d do it,”

Walter Cronkite often called the most trusted man in America told viewers it was time for the United States to withdraw and heal from war.

POTUS Lyndon Johnson reportedly remarked: “If I’ve lost Cronkite, I’ve lost Middle America.”

I happened to meet Uncle Walter, who I called the Superman of CBS anchors because he loved to sail, and his custom-built ketch Wyntje, named after a Dutch ancestor, was often seen in coastal NYC where I live, so I had the good fortune of meeting and taking a boat ride with him and his wife Betsy at The City Island Yacht Club.

Since he left the number-one-rated TV Newscast, CBS News tried to replace him with Dan, Katie, Jeff, Bob, Scott, and Nora, but none of them have reached a similar status.    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5tdqojA26E
