A stay at home order was lifted and The Big Apple has officially opened. I LOVE NY whenever the weather warms up and public beaches are also free. Nearby my City Island home is Orchard Beach. I asked my wife to come with me, but she was not in the mood. This is the part when I’m supposed to say that I missed her, but do you want real honesty or fake news? Everything looks to be well on its way to recovering nicely and it also feels just fine. Keep cool, fit and healthy 😎
This beach is known as The Riviera of New York. Orchard Beach is a 115-acre, 1.1 mile-long beach contains a hexagonal-block promenade, a central pavilion, snack bars, food, and souvenir carts, two playgrounds, two picnic areas, large parking lot, a bathroom area for cold showers.
The Bronx's only beach is still a popular hotspot on a warm day. The beach sits on the Long Island Sound and offers one-of-a-kind views, and to observe social distancing rules, I chose to stay 6ft. away.
If you need to get out of the sun, take a leisurely walk on the promenade and stop into some of the many shops and food venues.
For its entire length, the beach is also fronted by a 50-foot-wide promenade with hexagonal gray tiles. Four brick utility buildings were built along the promenade: two to the north of the bathhouse pavilion, and two to the south. At the north end of the promenade is a fence that separates the promenade's end from a rock shelf. The shoreline then curves north, following the old boundary of the former Twin Islands
The beach has easy access via MTA Regional Bus Operations' Bx5 bus served Orchard Beach until Labor Day 2015, and the Bx12 and Bx12 SBS services serve Orchard Beach during weekends or if you ask nicely she may take you on the ride of your life.
Try it, you'll like it. 40.8673°N 73.7925°W. This is the awesome view of the shore during a clear day of New York heat.
